"What Is...", "How Long...", "Do You Offer..."?

Over the years, there have many different questions pertaining to our school, our programs, etc. Some of the more common questions (and answers) or listed below. On top of that, if you have specific questions or would like to set up a time to come in and meet with us about training, please contact us.
What Are The Benefits Of Joining A Martial Arts Program?
Students learn many things in our programs including discipline,
self confidence, self esteem, confidence, and improved academic standing. These are just a few of the many benefits students achieve. In addition they
will be surrounded by other positive influences and develop through....
Role Model Development ... our students will be surrounded by a
group of Instructors and staff that maintain a strict code of ethics and
follow a high standard of exemplary behavior.
Physical
Development ... the Martial Arts enhance physical development. Strength,
coordination, flexibility, and balance are just a few of the benefits.
Physical development also means learning self defense, in which the student
will become confident of their own physical ability and their capability
to defend themselves in a confrontation. A secure individual will be a healthy
individual.
Personal Development ... we promote goal oriented programs to
help students to grow personally and strive to be better on their own.
Students who perform well feel good about themselves and tend to lead
healthier lives.
Character Development ... besides "kicking and punching",
we teach values to promote strong moral character. Our students learn
courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit.
These are the five tenets of Taekwondo and the Martial Arts in general. These five tenets are strong building
blocks for a stronger person, thus making them a positive contribution
to community as well.
How
Is The Maryland State Martial Arts Different Than Other Schools?
Our program is different than alot of other schools for
many reasons.... but the biggest is on the principle for which we opened....
to be a true Martial Arts school.
We are one of the only Martial Arts facilities in the area that teach multiple Martial Arts for cross-training. Our instructors are certified in their respective programs by the proper authorities. They have trained a number of years in their Arts and have acquired the experience and knowledge to teach our students. All of our Instructors train actively as well.
We teach Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu and Hapkido as our main programs. This allows the student(s) to train in multiple styles, not only progressing through the ranks of each, but learning valuable skills as each pertains to different areas and ranges of self defense.
We are versatile enough to cover both the sport aspect of the Martial
Arts and the self defense aspect as well - priding ourselves on the success
of both. Our (Taekwondo) competition team has been very successful with many competitors competing
at a National level, while our self defense training has proven very effective
in many situations that come about from day to day.
We believe and strive for one thing.... helping people to grow through the
Martial Arts and be a true representation of what the Martial Arts should be.... and how it should be properly reflected to others.
The Martial Arts build character; and character builds people who are contributions
to their community and society as a whole.

the same family. Contact us for details.

Schedule is subject to change without notice also.
How
Long Will It Take Myself / My Child To Earn A Black Belt?
On average, while keeping in mind that everyone is different, it will
take three to four years to achieve Black Belt level under any of our core programs (Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Hapkido).
This is not promised or guaranteed to anyone as we know that each person's
developmental pace is different. It takes this length of time so that
the student can not only "go thru the motions" of what they
are learning but be able to realize and understand what they are doing,
why they are doing what they
are doing, and practice applying it in a safe environment.
What
Are The Eligibility Requirements For Your Program?
Age requirements vary based on program. Contact us with specific questions on the program, or programs, you are interested in and we will be happy to discuss.
When
And How Often Are Classes?
Students attend classes twice a week (on average). Due to our extensive curriculum,
we have a requirement that attendance be at least twice per week. Class
times are 30-60 minutes in length depending on the program. We also offer private lessons by appointment.
Can
You Accommodate Children With Learning Challenges And Physical Handicaps?
Statistically, it has been shown that Martial Arts programs
help the development of children with ADD or ADHD as well as other behavioral
challenges. Because children are required to pay close attention to the
program in order to comprehend, these learning challenges are met head
on by ongoing training. Students who have these challenges perform extremely
well because of the learning environment. This is because of the attention
that is given to each student while training.
We also have students with physical handicaps that perform very well and
learn how to adapt the Martial Arts to work with their handicaps.
Do
The Parents Need To Be Involved?
As a parent, the key element to your child's progression
is your motivation. Unfortunately, children at a young age do not know
what types of training they need. Parents are responsibe for identifying
the child's needs and get them involved in the appropriate program or
activity. Martial Arts training provides the edge in many areas of a child's
development. As a parent you will see your child blossom right before
you. Our program gives you the opportunity to watch your child learn,
and provide for your participation in the whole process. We feel this
creates a learning bond between parent and child. We are involved in many
activitites including our competition and demo teams that we encourage
everyone to participate in where we also get the parents involved through
training, coaching, fund drives, etc.
How
Do I Know If My Child Is Ready?
The best bet is to come into the school and have your child work with
our Chief Instructor to determine whether your child is ready and at what
level they should participate. Please keep in mind that your support and
motivation will be a key factor in your child's development. Contact us to set up an appointment.
How
Large Are The Classes?
Class sizes usually do not go over 15-20 people. If class
sizes grow to a level that we feel may hinder effective instruction, the staff will reorganize the schedule for more
classes so that the level of attention given to each student is not affected.
A common problem with many "Black Belt Factories" is that the
class sizes get too large and there are not enough instructors supervising
what is going on, thus having an adverse effect on the students training,
progress and success.
